Mail Out - March 2015

Welcome to the Additional Needs Network - Mail Out

The Additional Needs Network has met three times so far and I am delighted at its continued and growing interest.  The Network provides a valuable opportunity for DofE Leaders to meet each other and to discuss and ask questions about issues that they are facing.  A big thank you to all those that have attended and contributed to the interesting discussions.

New Resources

The DofE has developed a range of resources to support your work with young people who have additional needs:

Videos - Subtitles and British Sign Language have been added to two of our existing videos – ‘DofE in Residential Settings’ and ‘Flexible and Inclusive DofE’.

Widgit - A number of resources have been developed using the popular widget format including sectional information sheets and flashcards.

Your feedback on these resources will be welcomed.

Additional Needs Report

A report detailing the work of DofE with young people who have additional needs is being produced for the year 2014/15.  It would be great to showcase as many groups as possible in this report.  If you would like to include a piece about a particular activity that your group is doing, or about your group in general then please get in touch with me.  I will be happy to come and visit your group and write something up, or to receive a written piece.

Silver expedition

A couple of DofE Leaders are looking to deliver a Silver expedition for some young people who have mobility issues, but don’t quite have enough young people to make the expedition viable.  If you have any young people in a similar situation and would like to look at joining up, please get in touch with me.

eDofE – Leader Recorded

A reminder that eDofE has a function available called Leader Recorded, which allows Leaders to input formation on behalf of a participant.  This function is available to groups and participants who face barriers with accessing eDofE.  If you would like access to this function please get in touch with me.

Additional Needs Network Meeting

The next Network meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd April from 5:00 - 6:45pm at the Victoria Charity Centre.  This meeting will focus on sectional activities that can count towards DofE programmes, as well as the usual open forum and networkingn opportunity.  Please let me know if you would like to attend this meeting.
